CHILDREN'S SNOWSUIT GUIDE
Choosing the right winter coat for your child can quickly become a real challenge: warmth, comfort, sizing... it's easy to get overwhelmed. To make things easier, we've put together a practical guide to walk you through the process step by step. Discover our 5 tips for choosing the perfect snowsuit that will keep up with your child all winter long!
1. Choose the Right Style Based on Your Needs
The ideal winter coat depends on your child’s daily routine and your family’s needs.
One-piece snowsuit: Easy to put on and super convenient, this all-in-one option keeps your little one covered from head to toe in one simple step. It’s the perfect choice for toddlers and is especially appreciated in daycare settings, it promotes independence and saves time for educators.
Two-piece snowsuit: More versatile, this option allows your child to wear just the jacket for school, car rides, or the bus, and then add the snow pants when it’s time to play outside.
2. Choose the Right Size
Did you know that children between the ages of 3 and 8 grow an average of 5 to 7 cm (2 to 2.7 inches) per year? To avoid buying a snowsuit that becomes too small halfway through winter, it's important to factor in growth right from the start.
Sleeves: At the beginning of the season, sleeves should slightly extend past the wrist, without covering the fingertips.
Room in the crotch: You should be able to slide a hand between the snow pants and your child’s body. This ensures comfort and freedom of movement right through to spring.
Snow pants: Some models can be permanently folded using the tab located at the bottom of the leg if the pants are a bit too long at the beginning of the season. In addition, some pants also feature a small orange seam on the inside that can be undone to gain a few extra centimetres, sometimes allowing them to be worn for an additional season.
3. Waterproofing and Warmth
A good winter coat needs to protect against both snow and cold, so it’s important to consider waterproofing and insulation.
Waterproofing: Measured in millimetres, this rating tells you how much water the fabric can handle before it begins to leak. A rating of 5,000 mm or higher offers solid protection against rain, wet snow, and even heavy winter storms.
Warmth: Our snowsuits are designed to withstand temperatures as low as -30°C, offering comfort and protection that’s built to handle even the harshest Quebec winters.
4. The Little Extras That Make a Big Difference
Designed to keep up with even the most active kids, our coats and snow pants include thoughtful features that ensure comfort and durability for every winter adventure.
Reinforced knees and seat: Our snow pants feature reinforced areas at the knees and seat, perfect for withstanding slides, snow games, and frequent falls.
Snow skirt: Our jackets include an integrated snow skirt to keep snow from getting inside, whether your child is rolling around or sitting on the ground.
